The Bowen Technique

The Bowen Technique is an extremely gentle, soft tissue remedial therapy.

This fascinating treatment makes non-invasive subtle moves across areas of muscle, tendon, ligament and soft tissue of the body. The technique was created by Australian, Tom Bowen and stimulates the body to rebalance itself promoting healing, pain relief and the recovery of energy.

Treatment using the Bowen Technique aims to support and boost the natural healing capabilities of the body and is suitable for babies, children and adults. It has beneficial effects across a wide range of conditions including:

  • Asthma
  • Back pain
  • Frozen shoulder
  • Hay fever
  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome
  • Migraine and stress
  • Sports injuries
  • Whiplash and neck pain

The moves are thought to work by stimulating the brain to investigate the area and release any tension. The basic idea of drawing the brain's attention to a problem then allowing the body to heal itself, does not fit in with the conventional view of physiology. However, there is strong evidence to suggest the technique can be very effective in managing many conditions.

Sports injury is a field of remedial therapy that is becoming increasingly aware of the benefits of The Bowen Technique. Not only do sports enthusiasts report fewer injuries when regularly treated, but they also notice an increase in performance.

The Bowen Therapists’ European Register only accredits practitioners who hold certificates in Anatomy and Physiology and First Aid, and commit to ongoing professional development under a strict Code of Conduct and Ethics.
