Indian Head Massage

Head massage has been practised in India for thousands of years. It is based upon the ancient Ayurvedic healing system, which strives to restore balance and inner harmony to the mind, body and spirit. It has provided Indian families with relaxation and healing on a daily basis, as well as playing an integral part in rituals such as weddings and births.

It was introduced to the west by Narendra Mehta, a trainee physiotherapist, who developed the treatment to include other parts of the body vulnerable to stress. By incorporating the neck, upper arms and shoulders, he created a stress management programme more relevant to western lifestyle.

An Indian Head Massage treats the upper back, shoulders, upper arms, neck, face, ears and scalp, and can release the stress that has accumulated in the tissues, muscles and joints.

Indian Head Massage helps to increase joint mobility and flexibility in the neck and shoulders. It improves circulation and lymphatic flow, eases tension and relaxes connective tissue. It is an excellent treatment for relieving stress related disorders, and can aid in the alleviation of fatigue, insomnia, sinusitis and headaches. An added bonus is that the experience is often deeply soothing, calming and relaxing.

Traditionally an Indian Head Massage is performed in a seated position, however we also offer this treatment lying down.
