Reflexology
Reflexology is a complementary therapy which works upon the feet or hands.
This gentle treatment can be used to help maintain and restore the body’s natural healthy balance.
Whilst the roots of reflexology can be traced back to ancient civilisations, it wasn’t until 1913 that Dr. William Fitzgerald introduced his 'Zone Therapy' to the West. He suggested that there were reflex points on the feet and hands which were related to other areas of the body within a vertical zone. In the 1930s Eunice Ingham, a physiotherapist, extended his work by painstakingly mapping out the hands and feet with every corresponding organ, gland and system of the body, developing the technique into what we today know as reflexology.
A firm pressure is used to stimulate the reflexes, however each treatment is tailored to the individual. If a particular area of the body is out of balance, the corresponding reflex may feel sharp or tender.
Reflexology is suitable for all ages and may bring relief from a wide range of conditions including:
-
Anxiety
- Depression
- Fatigue
- Hypertension
- Migraine and headaches
- PMS
- Stress
As a complementary treatment, Reflexology is widely accepted in the UK and recognised by the NHS, many GPs and hospices. Doctors agree that 75% of health problems can be linked to stress and nervous tension, and Reflexology, as a clinical treatment with proven results, is effective, for relaxing and easing the body back into balance.
